Our Company History

After graduating from Old Dominion University in 1976, Chip Iuliano built and managed his own hardware store. Familiarizing himself with all aspects of the construction industry, he soon became a "jack-of-all-trades.” Chip got his feet wet in the construction business by building his first home in 1978 followed by another in 1980. His growing interest in building led to the sale of his hardware store and the pursuit of full-time home building.

By the early 1990’s ABT Custom Homes had quickly developed a reputation for integrity and quality. In 1992, Area Builders of Tidewater participated in its first home show, Homearama. That year ABT Custom Homes won awards for Critic’s Choice Best House in Show, Sales & Marketing Council Favorite, and the People’s Choice Favorite Home. Since that initial show, ABT Custom Homes has garnered more than 100 Homearama awards including the 2008 Critic's Choice Best in Show. The company has gained the status as a pioneer and crowd favorite.

Since conception, Chip has remained hands on in the day-to-day operations. "Continued success comes from our longstanding relationships with trade contractors, developers, architects, and decorators. These symbiotic relationships allow us to focus on satisfying every client, everyday, unconditionally. From initial client consultation to the final walkthrough and beyond, each of our employees is dedicated to core principles of integrity and quality."

"Our goal is to build dreams not just homes," says Chip. Through innovative and proven construction technologies, we build the very best dream home for our clients, one that is not only functional, but also provides the ultimate in design and craftsmanship. Our custom homes can be found in many sought after communities throughout Hampton Roads including Ashville Park, Pitchkettle Farms, East Beach, Riverfront, Founders Pointe, Cypress Creek, Broadcreek, and Culpepper Landing.

"While building dreams for our homeowners remains our focus, we take every opportunity to devote ourselves to building dreams within our communities as well. Over the last two decades, we have partnered with many charitable organizations including Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters, Habitat for Humanity, The Girls and Boys Club of Southeastern Virginia, The St. Jude Dream Home, among others. We recently reintroduced the TBA Scholarship House raising $75,000 towards higher education for several of our local young achievers." In order to be of service Chip became TBA president in 2004 and devoted countless hours of leadership as a spokesperson for industry wide issues.

Today the company enjoys a solid reputation for building exceptional dream homes with excellent client service. "We look forward to continuing on a successful path and hope that you will consider ABT Custom Homes when it is time to build your dream home."
